Travel

If you plan on staying in either Boston or the surrounding New England area for longer, we would love to share some of our favorites with you!

You can see all of these on this Google Maps list.

Boston & Cambridge

  • Alive & Kickin' Lobsters (just like Cape Cod, but in Cambridge)
  • Pammy’s (fancy dinner, this one probably needs a reservation)
  • Asmara (Eritrean & Ethiopian food; just don't ask for utensils)
  • Lamplighter (great coffee shop in the mornings and brewery in the afternoon/evenings)
  • Si Cara (thick crust Neopolitan pizza)
  • The Druid or The Burren (Irish bars with live music)
  • Bagelsaurus (have you seen Ariel's dino-bagel hat?!)
  • Our favorite cafes (coffee, pastries, lunch): Sofra, Flour, Cicada, 3 Little Figs, La Saison, Cafe Beatrice
  • Sarma and Oleana (two spots by the same chef, definitely would need a reservation far in advance)
  • Yume Wo Katare (single-menu item ramen shop, be sure to prepare a dream to share)
  • Isabella Stuart Gardner museum (art and such)
  • Museum of Fine Arts (more art and such; we hear the Dali exhibit will be in town)
  • Boston Public Library (just to walk around, or book in advance to go for high tea)
  • Freedom trail (Boston historical tours led by tour guides dressed in Colonial garb)
  • North End and stopping by the Aquarium to see the Manatees
  • Oyster happy hours (Massachusetts doesn't do discount alcohol, but they do discount oysters!)

Greater New England Recommendations

The nearby upper valley is a great place to knock out the holy trinity of hiking, swimming, and drinking beer. Mounts Sunapee, Ascutney, Cardigan, and Monadnock are nearby and personally verified as great hikes by Ariel and Colin. Hanover, NH, Norwich, VT, and Windsor, VT have plenty of lakes, breweries, bakeries, and cultural venues (like art museums and Dartmouth frats— be sure to sample both). We both spent special time here during our teens— Ariel went to summer camp near Lake Sunapee and Colin went to The Mountain School across the river in Vermont. Below are some additional recommendations.

  • Hiking (duh!)
  • King Arthur (cafe & baking goods store), can be paired with Harpoon brewery & a swimming hole nearby
  • Hanover scoop shop (get a maple creamie!)
  • Zeb's (trust us)
  • Flatbread Company (pizza, perfect after a hike!)
  • Montague Book Mill ("Books you don't need in a place you can't find")
